01 / IN SHORTFour things to know first.
- It is a hub, not a player. Intiface Central is the app for Buttplug, an open-source library for intimate hardware. Players connect to it; it connects to your toys.
- It runs almost anywhere. Windows 10 and later, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. It is open source, and free on the App Store.
- The engine starts off. Nothing connects until you press play in the Engine Control Panel at the top of the app.
- Do not pair most toys with your computer. Intiface makes the Bluetooth connection itself. A few brands are exceptions, listed below.
02 / SET IT UPFive steps, the first time.
- Install it.On a computer from intiface.com, on Android from Google Play, on iPhone or iPad from the App Store. New devices arrive through library updates, and the app checks for updates when it starts.
- Leave Bluetooth LE on.Under App Modes, Device Managers, Bluetooth LE is on by default and preferred for every toy. Turn the others on only if you need them.
- Start the engine.Press the large play button. The control panel then shows the server address. You can set the engine to start by itself in the settings.
- Scan.On the Devices tab, press Start Scanning, then Stop Scanning when your toy appears. This works before any player connects.
- Connect your player. Most players try the default address on their own; if one asks, give it the address in the control panel. The player's name appears in Intiface once it is connected.
03 / WHAT PLAYERS SENDPositions for strokers, levels for vibrators.
Each device card in Intiface shows icons for what the toy can do: vibrate, rotate, oscillate, constrict, position with duration (a stroker) and more. That tells you how a funscript will reach it.
- Strokers take a position from 0 to 1 and a time in milliseconds to get there. The player turns each funscript point, 0 to 100, into a position, and the gap to the next point into the time.
- Vibrators take a level from 0 to 1 for each motor. The player works out the level from the script's speed, or reads a vibration track. See funscripts on vibrators.
- Rotating toys take a speed and a direction.
Stopping is built in. The protocol has one command to stop a device and another to stop them all, and stopping the engine disconnects every player and device.
04 / PLAYERS THAT USE ITPick the one that fits how you watch.
| Player | Runs on | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| ScriptPlayer | Windows | Open source. Plays videos with scripts on stroking, vibrating and rotating toys. |
| MultiFunPlayer | Windows | Open source. Buttplug output next to TCode and the Handy; follows DeoVR, HereSphere, MPV, VLC and others. |
| FunGen | Windows, macOS, Linux | A script editor and generator whose built-in player outputs through Buttplug and Intiface. |
| Stash plugins | Your media server | Community plugins sync a scene's script to toys through Intiface. |
| ANANGA | Browser | Looks for Intiface on the same computer. It opens to everyone this winter. |
05 / BLUETOOTHMost problems are radio problems.
- Use Bluetooth 4 or later. Bluetooth 5 dongles generally work well on Windows and Linux.
- Prefer a dongle on Windows and Linux. Built-in radios often have short range and driver trouble. Intiface's developers test with the TP-Link UB500 and the Asus BT500. On a Mac newer than 2012, the built-in radio works well.
- On Windows, check the driver. Old vendor drivers, notably some CSR and Broadcom ones, can make an adapter look fine while Intiface sees nothing. Uninstall them and replug the adapter so Windows installs its own.
- Keep it close. Put the dongle on a USB extension or hub near you. USB 2 hubs can work better than USB 3 ones, which may cause interference.
- Free the toy from your phone. If it is paired there, unpair it first. Or turn it around: Intiface on a phone can relay toys to the desktop app in Repeater mode.
06 / BRAND NOTESPair, or don't pair.
| Brand | What Intiface's documentation says |
|---|---|
| Lovense | Do not pair with your computer. Toys are found by their default Bluetooth name, starting with LVS-. The Lovense dongle and Lovense Connect app are no longer supported. |
| We-Vibe | The Vector must be paired with your computer first, and works with one computer at a time. |
| Satisfyer | Reset, then pair with your computer first. On Windows and Linux, use a dongle with a CSR chip. One computer at a time. |
| Kiiroo Onyx+ | Pair with your computer first; otherwise it appears but does not respond. More in our Kiiroo guide. |
| The Handy | Firmware 3 or later. Hold the WiFi button until the light turns blue while scanning. Its maker recommends playing online instead: see the Handy. |
| OSR2, SR6 | DIY devices need more setup than the quickstart covers. See multi-axis on the OSR2 and SR6. |
07 / QUESTIONSAsked often.
Is Intiface Central free?
It is free on the App Store, with no in-app purchases listed, and its source code is public under a dual GPL 3 and commercial licence.
How do I know if my toy is supported?
Buttplug's own list is the IoST Index at iostindex.com, which can be filtered to the devices the library supports.
My toy appears but does not move. Why?
Usually pairing. Some toys must be paired with your computer first, such as the Kiiroo Onyx+, We-Vibe Vector and Satisfyer toys; Lovense toys must not be. Check the notes above, then Intiface's troubleshooting pages.
Can I play a funscript on a vibrator through Intiface?
Yes, if your player translates the motion into vibration or the script has a vibration track. Here is how that works.
Do I still need to check my scripts?
It helps. A script with moves faster than your toy can make will lurch or skip unless your player limits them. Check a script in your browser, and read about device-safe limits. Scripts to try are in ANANGA's free, open catalogue at ananga.ai/scripts.
